Originally only male executives from the transportation industry were members but as more and more women took on leading roles in the transportation community in Glasgow, membership was extended to include women and bring the club up to date. Our first Lady Chairman was Anne Newlands of J F Hillebrand in 2000. Anne is now the Club's  Honorary Treasurer.

 Our Ex Honorary President Mr Jack A Wallace passed away earlier this year.

A founder member of the Club, Jack started his shipping career in 1959 with Prentice, Service and Henderson who were agents for Harrison Line and Ben Line. This was followed by some time at Ferry Masters, agents for Sealand. Jack then joined John S Braid & Co where he worked until his retirement in 1992.

Jack is the only member of the Glasgow Freight Club to have served as Chairman on two occasions, firstly in 1974 and secondly in 1985. He also served as Treasurer and finally as Secretary for 9 years until his retirement from the committee in April 2003.

For his sterling service and dedication to the Club, Jack was appointed as the clubs first Honorary President. He is sadly missed by all.
